London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)
The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) covers almost all of Greater London and charges £12.50 a day for vehicles that don't meet its emissions standards. Most newer cars are compliant and pay nothing — but if yours isn't, the charge applies every single day you drive.
It's enforced by camera on the same TfL system as the Congestion Charge, so a non-compliant vehicle racks up daily charges quietly in the background — and each missed day can become a penalty.

Pay-by deadline
By midnight on the third day after you drive. Unpaid, it becomes a Penalty Charge Notice.
How to pay it yourself
- 1First check whether your vehicle is ULEZ compliant — many are, and owe nothing.
- 2If it's chargeable, go to the official TfL pay-to-drive service.
- 3Enter your number plate and the date(s) you drove.
- 4Pay £12.50 per day — or set up automatic payment so you never miss one.
What happens if you don't pay
A £180 Penalty Charge Notice per unpaid day (reduced to £90 within 14 days). For a daily driver in a non-compliant vehicle, missed days add up fast.

Frequently asked questions
Is my car ULEZ compliant?
Most petrol cars from 2006 and most diesels from around 2015 meet the standard and pay nothing. If in doubt, check your number plate against TfL's checker before you drive.
How much is the ULEZ charge?
£12.50 per day for a non-compliant car, charged for every day you drive within the zone.
What is the ULEZ fine?
£180 for each unpaid day, reduced to £90 if paid within 14 days.
How does Snaptoll handle ULEZ?
If your vehicle is chargeable, we pay each day's ULEZ charge automatically once your plate is registered — so a forgotten day never turns into a £180 penalty.
When will the charge appear after I cross?
You're covered the moment you cross. The charge then reaches your card up to 5 working days — the ULEZ operator bills us in arrears, so a short delay before it appears is normal. When we collect, you get a receipt confirming exactly what was paid.
