Frequently asked questions
The short version: register once, drive normally, get receipts instead of fines. The longer version is below — and if anything's still unclear, ask us directly.
›What is Snaptoll?
Snaptoll is one account that makes sure your UK tolls and road charges are paid automatically and on time — the Dartford Crossing, London's Congestion Charge and ULEZ, the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels, the M6 Toll and airport drop-off charges. You register once; after that you get receipts instead of penalty letters.
›How does it work?
Add your car (we verify the number plate against the DVLA in seconds) and a way to pay. From then on, whenever you use a covered road or zone, we make sure the charge is paid before its deadline and send you a receipt. There is nothing to remember and nothing to do after each journey.
›What does it cost?
There is no subscription. You pay the actual toll or charge, plus a small convenience fee per crossing. The full breakdown is always shown on your receipt — no hidden charges, and you pay nothing at all in weeks you don't cross anything.
›Which tolls and charges are covered?
Live today: the Dartford Crossing, London Congestion Charge, ULEZ, the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels, the M6 Toll, and drop-off charges at major UK airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Manchester and East Midlands. Some schemes (like Clean Air Zones for private cars, or Scotland's LEZ which is a ban rather than a charge) work differently — our coverage pages explain each one honestly.
›Is my card safe?
Your card details never touch our servers. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe — the same payment infrastructure used by companies like Deliveroo and Uber — and we only ever see the last four digits. You can also use Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a UK Direct Debit, which comes with the Direct Debit Guarantee.
›I already have Auto Pay with TfL or Dart Charge — do I need this?
If you've set up auto-pay with an operator, you're covered for that scheme — genuinely. What Snaptoll adds is one place for everything: the schemes you haven't set up, the ones you don't know about yet, airport drop-offs, plus MOT and tax reminders. When you add your car we show you exactly where you're already covered and where you're exposed, so you only switch if and when you want to.
›What if something goes wrong — who pays the fine?
If a penalty is ever caused by our failure, we reimburse it. That promise is written into our Terms, not just this page. Tell us within 14 days of the penalty notice and we'll put it right.
›Do I need to do anything when I drive through a toll?
No. Drive normally — no app to open, no button to press. The charge is handled automatically and your receipt confirms it.
›Can I use Snaptoll with a rental or lease car?
Yes — as long as you have the registered keeper's permission to set up auto-pay for the vehicle. For a rental or lease, the registered keeper is usually the rental or leasing company, so it's their permission that counts. We have no way to verify this ourselves, so it's your responsibility to make sure you have it — you confirm this when you add the vehicle.
›How do I stop or leave?
Any time, from your dashboard: pause a vehicle, remove it, or delete your whole account (with a full data export if you want one). You remain responsible for crossings made while you were covered — after that, nothing.
›When can I sign up?
We're launching soon and onboarding in waves. Join the waitlist and we'll email you the moment your spot opens.
