Clean Air Zones charge older, more-polluting vehicles in certain English cities. The emissions standard is the same as the London ULEZ: petrol Euro 4+, diesel Euro 6+.
For a private car, only the Birmingham and Bristol zones actually charge you (around £8 a day). The other English CAZ cities — Bath, Bradford, Sheffield, Portsmouth and Tyneside — only charge vans, taxis, buses and lorries, not private cars.

A Penalty Charge Notice of around £120, on top of the missed daily charge. You usually have until 6 days after driving to pay.
